1. Foundations & Warnings
5টি বিষয়Conditions of valid Ruqyah, avoiding shirk, seeking medical care, and warnings against amulets/sorcerers.
What is Ruqyah & Its Shariah Conditions
Ruqyah is the Islamic practice of seeking refuge in Allah and asking for healing by reciting verses of the Noble Quran and authentic prophetic supplications accompanied by light, dry blowing (nafth). Shariah conditions: 1) Must consist only of Allah's words, names, or attributes; 2) Must be in clear, understandable language; 3) Firm belief that the cure comes solely from Allah, and ruqyah possesses no independent power.
Seeking Medical Treatment is Mandatory
Seeking medical care and taking medication is an established Sunnah and obligation in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Allah has not sent down any disease except that He also sent down its cure' (Bukhari 5678). Ruqyah accompanies medical treatment; assuming every illness is jinn or witchcraft is pure ignorance.
Amulets & Ta'wiz Are Prohibited (Shirk)
Wearing amulets, charms, threads, or cowrie shells for protection or healing is strictly forbidden in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ declared: 'Whoever hangs an amulet has committed shirk' (Musnad Ahmad 17422). True ruqyah is spoken recitation and prayer to Allah, not hanging inanimate objects.
Prohibition of Sorcerers & Fortune Tellers
Visiting fortune-tellers, soothsayers, or spiritual charlatans for healing or breaking magic is a major sin. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever visits a diviner and asks him about anything, his prayers will not be accepted for forty nights' (Sahih Muslim 2230). Anyone asking for mother's names or writing symbols is a practitioner of falsehood.
Important Safety & Shariah Note
Ruqyah is a means of seeking Allah's protection and healing; it does not replace medical care. Always consult qualified healthcare professionals for illnesses. Never wear amulets/talismans or visit fortune-tellers/sorcerers.
